Open source cross-platform audio and video player.

VLC Media Player 0.8.6 was released 12/10/06. VLC Media Player is an open source audio and video player for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. VLC is particularly good at playing file formats that might not play properly on QuickTime Player and Windows Media Player.
VLC also plays DVDs, and in my house, we have lots of DVDs from Finland, but we don't yet have a region-free DVD player. Fortunately, VLC ignores the DVD region codes, thereby turning our Macintosh and PC into region-free DVD players (a.k.a. multi-region DVD players).
