It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing

On 06/28/10, the Supreme Court of the United States decided Bilski v. Kappos, a case about what subject matter (including software and business method patents) is eligible for patent protection under US law.
Unfortunately, the Supremes blew it. Here’s why. Bear with me, this will take… [click here to read more]
An article for Mother’s Day.
Today is Mother’s Day. I won’t be able to make it to Maine today to visit my parents. And I’m pretty sure my folks don’t need any more knick-knacks. So I wrote this as my gift instead. I have lots of nice things to say about my parents, and I think it’s important for me to say them -… [click here to read more]

There is no spoon.

Everybody seems to be waiting for things to “get back to normal” in one way or another:
- My life will get back to normal after my divorce is finalized.
- Life in Haiti will get back to normal after they recover from the recent earthquake.
Patent Law Is Broken

Attention People of Earth:
Patent law is currently broken. Especially software patent law. A pending Supreme Court case (Google Bilski for more info) may fix it or make further break it. In short, you can expect to pay more for, wait longer for, and get less from your patents than… [click here to read more]

Email is social networking glue.
It is difficult to sync your contacts. Email, social networking, mobile devices. Each has its own set of contacts. One may or may not be able to sync with the other. I drew this drawing to keep track of where my data is, where I want it to be, and how to connect it all together.
Don’t sweat the small stuff.
In 2009, my social networking fun was interrupted by Big Stuff: my wife and I decided to amicably divorce. We sold our big house in Acton, moved into two separate places, and are spending 2010 starting over.
Why do I blog about this? Three reasons.

Build one with your kids.

In the summer of 2003 and 2004, the perfect treehouse took shape in a four-stem maple in the back yard of a house in Acton, MA.

My #FollowAugust experiment explained.
When my son turned 13, he got a Twitter account. When he asked me who I follow, I said, “Everybody who follows me and then some.” But when I looked more closely at my Twitter profile, I realized that my follower list was not appropriate for a 13-year-old’s eyes. By virtue of following back those who followed me… [click here to read more]
