Google shuts down music blogs, but it had little choice.

Tough week for Google. First, Google’s Blogger division shuts down a handful of music blogs in response to DMCA complaints, and users go crazy. Second, Google Buzz launches, and users are outraged over privacy concerns (more on that later). Users: can’t live without ‘em, can’t live with ‘em without the occasional outrage.… [click here to read more]

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

In 2009, my social networking fun was interrupted by Big Stuff: my wife and I decided to amicably divorce. We sold our big house in Acton, moved into two separate places, and are spending 2010 starting over.

Why do I blog about this? Three reasons.

Goodbye FeedBurner

Posted October 28, 2009, in Google, Social Networking, Technology, Weblogs by @ErikJHeels (permalink: http://erikjheels.com/?p=1988)

Taking control of my feed again.

I just turned off FeedBurner. The problems with FeedBurner are well documented. No need for me to pile on.

If you’ve subscribed to the FeedBurner feed (http://feeds.feedburner.com/erikjheels), then you’ll need to re-subscribe. My blog’s new feed is http://erikjheels.com/?feed=rss2. Please make a note of it.… [click here to read more]

When feeds are out of sight, feeds are out of mind.

“By the way, and you can quote me on this, I was totally wrong about FeedBurner. Since starting to use FeedBurner three months ago, my readership has doubled, even though my blogging volume has stayed about the same.”

WordPress FeedBurner FeedSmith Plugin Test Results

Posted March 16, 2009, in Google, Social Networking, Weblogs by @ErikJHeels (permalink: http://erikjheels.com/?p=1579)

A combination of plugins is causing the FeedBurner FeedSmith plugin to break with WordPress 2.7.1 running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4.

Here’s what I know for certain:

    1. The current combination of plugins I am using works without breaking FeedBurner’s feed.
    2. Enabling the Post-Plugin Library plugin broke my FeedBurner feed; disabling it fixed it.
